Valpak: shared mail by the zone

Valpak is print advertising with the magazine removed: the blue envelope of coupons mailed to defined neighborhood zones, sold by local franchises, priced per zone per mailing.[1] Quote-only; there is no national rate card, and your quote comes from whoever owns your territory. Valpak's own marketing describes zones of roughly ten thousand households, which makes the zone the unit of thought.

The model's mechanics

Against a local magazine page

Different instruments. The envelope is pure response: precise geography, coupon mechanics, no editorial halo, instant discard risk. The local glossy (local folio) buys context, dwell time and brand adjacency at less targeting precision. Offer-led businesses with a service radius (home services, dining, auto) lean envelope; reputation-led businesses (medical, legal, high-ticket retail) lean book. Both are measurable; run each through cost-per-response, per Step 09.

Evidence to demand before signing

Franchise sales decks lean on response anecdotes. Ask for category-specific redemption data for your zones, in writing, and treat national averages as atmosphere. Then instrument your own insert (unique code, tracked number) so the renewal decision runs on your numbers, not theirs.
